This is a story about two gamblers and the trophy they bet on. The yonger one, poor and somewhat tasteless, has nothing to lose but lacks the resource to stay in the game. The older one, wealthy and sophisticated, has everything to offer yet unwilling to take any risk. The movie is based on Steve Martin's novella but is not a typical Steve Martin comedy. The story is rather simple and quite predictable. It's light, somewhat sad, like watching falling leaves dancing in late autumn breeze. Aging may add complexity to savor, but the taste might not always be mellow.
